Thursday the Montabella Girls Golf opened their 2nd season with a 9 hole match play at The Ridge in Breckenridge. Joined by Sacred Heart, Ithaca, Hemlock, Vestaburg, and host Breckenridge, they came out showing just how much growth they have had since last year’s opener. Leading the way was returning Junior Emma Peterson with at 53, including 1 par and 2 bogies. Team co captains Kenzie Karcher (Sr) and Alivia Thompson (SO)followed with a 60 and 62. The highlight of the night was Alivia’s first ever Birdie on a par 4. Returning Juniors Lydia Eldred and Bailey Kelsey both improved on last year’s start with a pair of 69s and a Bogey each. Joining us this year is Freshman Ella Scherzer, who got her first match in the books, and a solid bogey. Between 4 returning players, a total of 61 strokes were shaved off from last year’s season opener. Next Wednesday the girls will visit The Quest at Houghton Lake for their first 18 hole invitational.
