Saturday the middle school cross country team traveled to Central Montcalm to complete at the Hornet Invite. Despite the chilly weather the Mustangs showed up and ran hard. Medals were given to the top 25 boys and top 25 girls per grade. Many of our athletes took home Medals along with PRs. We started with 8th grade co-ed. Marshall Preston lead the way with a 13th place finish earning his medal. He was followed closely by Reese Pitts who placed 6th earning a medal. Not even .5 seconds later Evan Greene finished in 19th earning a medal. Brooklyn Porter ran strong and brought home 20th place and a medal. Next to run was our 7th grade co-ed race. First to cross the finish line for the Mustangs was Lane McKinstry. He finished 14th earning a medal and chasing records. Not far behind Katie Taylor finish 10th just seconds off from her PR and earning a medal. Raylan Eldred came across the finish in 24th earning a medal and also just a few seconds from a new PR. He was followed by Kathryn Graham who finished 23rd earning a medal and setting a new PR. Lucas Rodriguez finished 31st with yet another PR. Riley Eldred finish a full 10 minutes faster than he did when the season started in 38th place. Elizabeth Decker finished in 31st place 6 minutes faster than the start of the season. Last to run was our 6th grade co-ed team. These kids arrived at the same time as the rest of the team to show support and waited hours to compete. Then right before the gun went off the time clock went out to lunch!! So they waited some more. Finally they got to run and coming across the finish first for the Mustangs was Sadie Simon at a blistering pace. She finished 4th place and brought home a medal, and is now just a few short seconds from being your Mustangs 6th grade record holder. She was followed by Olivia Simon in 18th earning a medal, she ran a full minute faster than her previous PR. Ryder Eldred finished in 24th place earning a medal and running a solid race. What a beautiful day it was to be a coach, and supporting a great group of athletes! These kids give it all they have and it shows in the results as they compete. Just a quick bit of information for those who don't know. We have several record holders on this team, and several athletes that will break those records while going on to set new ones. The future is bright for the Middle School Cross Country team, so put on some sunglasses and come out and support them! Thank you to the parents, staff, and most importantly to the kids for allowing us the opportunity to be part of something so special. We look forward to watching these kids grow, both as athletes and young men and women. The kids will be back at it Saturday September 13th at Carson City.
