On Saturday, the Mustangs competed at the Don Baese Invitational—and their determination must have fueled their speed, because the team ran fast! Medals were awarded to the top 30 athletes in each race, and many Mustangs achieved new personal records. On the girls’ side, Saralynn Shelley led the way with a 47th-place finish. She was followed closely by Ryann Ball in 55th and Kirstyn Cummings in 56th. Kirstyn also notched a new PR, improving by 0:05 seconds. On the boys’ side, Bryce White paced the team with a 39th-place finish. He was followed by Jareth Shappee in 48th and Bryce Willis in 50th, with Willis lowering his PR by 0:21 seconds. Mason White finished 62nd with a 0:12-second PR, while Kenneth Graham placed 72nd with a 0:25-second improvement. Lewis Davidson followed in 80th, cutting 0:22 seconds from his best, and Michael Ockert crossed in 86th with a huge 0:51-second PR. Rounding out the pack, Colton Eldred finished 88th, taking 0:37 seconds off his previous best. It was a strong day of racing for the Mustangs! They’ll be back in action Wednesday at the first MSAC Jamboree of the season in Mt. Pleasant.
